In December 1950, some 100,000 UN troops were trapped in the North Korean port of Hungnam. They had been overwhelmed by Chinese forces in what became known as the Battle of Chosin, and were lucky to make it out of the mountains alive.

the SS Meredith Victory, had sailed to Hungnam to pick up the troops, supplies and ammunition and take them to the South Korean ports of Busan and Geoje Island. Rescuing refugees had never been part of the plan. Colonel Edward Forney of the US Marine Corps worked with others to try to make it part of the mission. His grandson Ned lives 천안원룸매매
